Summary: 

At the direction of the Commercial Lines Underwriter/Broker, the position interacts directly with our customer, the Independent Property and Casualty Retail Agent, in the capacity of a representative of either our contract or brokerage carriers, to manage renewal activity and all mid-term account administration activities as defined.  The position also serves a secondary role in the quotation of new business opportunities.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Review all renewal accounts with attention to pertinent underwriting criteria (exposures, loss history, audits, etc.) within the stated branch service guidelines.
  • Develop renewal quote/terms and conditions for each identified contract carrier for contract markets and select alternative markets for quoting in conjunction with risk eligibility attributes.
  • Request renewal application specifications from retail agent, summarize completed applications along with exposures, loss history, target pricing and submit to brokerage carriers for quotation.
  • Review all solicited renewal quotations and negotiate final pricing and terms/conditions for identified carriers.
  • Prepare and submit final renewal quotations for recommended carriers to retail agent.  Record renewal progress and final dispositions.
  • Prepare and record all required information needed to bind and invoice accounts.
  • Review and process all mid-term endorsement/cancellation and audit requests.
  • Provide timely and accurate customer service to retail agents.
  • Provide new business marketing and quoting assistance as needed by Commercial Lines Underwriters/Brokers.
  • Review and approve final policy issuance for MGA renewal accounts.
  • Request, review and approve all loss control reports for renewal business per company guidelines.  Communicate and confirm with retail agent the compliance of any actions pursuant to the findings of the loss control report per the carrier requirements.
  • Perform in a manner that will prevent errors and omissions.
  • Consistently demonstrate a professional, positive, team-oriented attitude while performing job duties.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 Supplemental Functions:

  • Attend company approved seminars and other educational activities required to stay current on latest developments, trends, and regulations in the marketplace.
  • Provide technical and administrative assistance required to support the attainment of stated office-wide objectives in conjunction with service standards.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate consistent competency in each essential job duty.  They must be able leverage their established expertise in a team oriented manner when called upon to support overall office objectives. 

Education and Experience

A four year college degree is preferred with one to three years of related experience.  Past experience should include either wholesale broker/MGA or carrier experience. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

C.I.S.R license is preferred by not mandatory.

Skill requirements:

Knowledge of Windows based software applications and basic typing skills.

Knowledge requirements:

Knowledge of basic P&C insurance, forms, endorsements, rating methods, terminology and other related topics is preferred.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as annual and short-term premiums, additional and return premiums related to endorsement and audit activities, commissions, policy fees, taxes, etc.  Ability to apply concepts of basic Accounts Receivable bookkeeping and explain as necessary.

Physical requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger; handled controls; and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
